Elder amassed a school-record 20 victories and claimed the SWOHSHL-Gold title a season ago. For the 2016-17 season the Panthers will move on to the Red division of the conference. They’ll be bringing with them the Enquirer’s reigning Player of the Year.
Ron Larkin led Elder with 59 points last season (24 goal, 35 assists) in 35 games. The senior is the all-time scoring leader at Elder as well as the school’s leader in assists. He set the school’s single-season assists mark with last year’s 35.
Also returning is junior defenseman Charlie Garnett. Garnett led the Panthers with 28 goals a season ago. He also added 21 assists for coach Joe Del Prince’s team.
Junior goalie Jacob Henn also returns. He recorded 13 wins last season and is closing in on the school’s all-time wins mark. Senior defenseman Mike Wynn (15 goals, 17 assists) and junior center Matt Mahon (20 goals, 23 assists) are also expected to return to form.
“Experience, talent, our hard work and goaltending,” coach Del Prince said when asked what he likes the most about his team.
In all the Panthers return 11 starters from last year’s record-setting, division-winning season.
