St. Xavier AquaBombers Win Southwest Ohio Classic Titles

On Day 2 of the Southwest Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Classic both Mason and St. Xavier picked up where they left off on Day 1.

Mason’s girls squad added 219 points to its Day-1 total to finish the meet with 515 points and claim the girls title. Similarly, the Bombers tacked on an additional 390 points to their Day-1 haul to finish with a score of 926 to win the boys competition.

Seven Hills (236), Centerville (230), Beavercreek (180) and Milford (172) rounded out he top five on the boys’ side. St. Ursula (311), Centerville (302), Ursuline (251) and Kings (216) all took home top-five showings on the girls’ side.

Sunday’s finals saw Mariemont junior Cora Dupre record her second individual championship of the meet. After winning the 50 Freestyle on Saturday, she won the 100 Freestyle on Sunday with a new meet record time of 49.56.

Staying with the freestyle, Seven Hills senior Lucy Callard won the grueling 1650 Free with a time of 17:04.11.

Turpin freshman Eva Watts won the 50 Backstroke championship with a time of 28.65. The 200 Backstroke crown went to Springboro sophomore Maggie Clough in 2:01.50.

The lone breaststroke final on Sunday was the 100. Centerville junior Lauren Lampe finished in first with a time of 1:05.34. The top local was Ursuline sophomore Claudia Butterfield who placed second (1:05.40).

In the 50 Butterfly Princeton senior Mikhaila Miquiabas claimed the crown with a time of 27.07. Margaret Berning, a senior from Fairmont, won the 200 Fly with a time of 2:00.56. The top local in the 200 was Ursuline junior Megan Glass. Glass placed second with a time of 2:04.91.

The 200 IM was won by Alter sophomore Kate Lair (2:05.86) while St. Ursula senior Hannah Foster placed second with a time of 2:07.06.

In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Mason came out on top with a swim of 3:29.05. The Comets also won the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.17.

The 1 Meter diving competition was won by Mt. Notre Dame senior Teagan Moravek. Moravek recorded a score of 467.65.

On the boys’ side of the competition the 100 Free was won by Cody Bybee of Bellbrook in a time of 44.84. The top local finisher was St. Xavier senior Justin Grender with a second-place showing of 44.94.

Grender, who won both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke on Satuday, went on to win the 200 Backstroke on Sunday. Grender finished with a time of 1:45.69.

The Bombers placed first, second, third and eighth in the 1650 Free. Junior Grady Wheeler won the event with a time of 15:45.62.

The 50 Backstroke was won by Lakota West sophomore Zachary Saurine with a time of 25.71 while Milford junior Tyler Babinec won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 56.36.

Moeller junior Emerson Amongero claimed the 50 Butterfly crown. He won the event with a swim of 24.04. Bellbrook’s Bybee won his second event of the day in the 200Fly with a time of 1:48.78. St. Xavier sophomore Jean-Pierre Khouzam was the top local finisher with a time of 1:52.42.

Carroll’s Connor Blatt won the 200IM (1:52.15) while St. Xavier sophomore Ansel Froass was second with a time of 1:53.16.

Sycamore claimed the 400 Freestyle Relay title with a time of 3:09.18 while St. Xavier won the 200 Medley Relay (1:32.94).

In the 1 Meter dive Indian Hill’s Noah Vigran won the meet championship with a score of 559.
