Elder Bowling Takes Control of GCL South with Win at GCL Quad #1

The GCL Bowling season is well underway as the four teams met in the first of four Quad Matches on Tuesday, December 12 hosted by Moeller at Crossgate Lanes in Kenwood. The GCL South league schedule consists of 4 quad matches where each team has the potential to pick up three wins in one day and also includes each school facing one another head to head twice. Last year, LaSalle finished league play with a 15-3 record to win the GCL South title while St. Xavier finished second at 11-7. Elder finished right behind the Bombers last year with a 10-8 league record while Moeller rounded out the standings.

Elder entered the first quad match of 2017 in first place with a 2-0 GCL South record with two victories over Moeller as they have already played the head to head portion of the schedule with one another. St. Xavier beat LaSalle in a head to head match to stand in second place in the league at 1-0. LaSalle stood at 0-1 in the league and Moeller stood at 0-2 in league heading into play on Tuesday. The Panthers came out hot and dominated play in the individual games as they put together a total of 2,224 in the two games to lead heading into the Bakers games. They were led by sophomore Ryan Kaffenberger who rolled a 247 in the first game and a 290 in the second game for a series of 537 which led all bowlers. His classmate Ethan Boyers rolled the fourth highest series of the day of 467 with games of 275 and 192. Senior Alex Clark rolled games of 218 and 214 for a 432 series while his classmate
Nathan Johnson rolled a 194 and 222 for a 416 series for Elder. They also had individual games of 192 from senior Ben Hornbeck and 180 from Cameron Brocker to round out their 2,224 total.
LaSalle stood in second after the individual games as they tallied a total of 1,903 pins in two individual games. They were led by freshman Nolan Blessing who rolled a 484 series with games of 232 and 252 for second highest of the day. Junior Jacob Toelke rolled games of 200 and 212 for a series of 412 while senior Michael Fields had a game of 244 for the Lancers. Junior Tyler Williams rolled a 175 game while senior Jacob Luckey had a game of 161 as well to help the Lancers to second place after individuals.

St. Xavier finished the individual games with a total of 1,842 pins as they were led by senior Zach
Littelmann who rolled games of 176 and 209 for a series of 385. Sophomore Jaxon Tuerck finished with a series of 379 with games of 176 and 203. Senior Garrett Litzinger finished with a 201 and 165 for a series of 366 while junior Zach Saupe rolled a 187 and 161 for a 348 series. Senior Jared Tuerck had a second game total of 197 and junior Jeremy Roenker finished game 1 with a 167 to round out the 1,842 total.

Moeller had a total of 1,813 pins in the individual games led by senior Sam Inman who rolled consistent games of 236 and 237 for the third highest series of the match at 473 while sophomore Connor Holmes finished with games of 210 and 190 for a 400 series. Junior Nick Widmeyer rolled games of 172 and 180 for a series of 352 while sophomore John Painter finished with a series of 307 with games of a 174 and 133. Senior Guillermo Villa rounded out the Crusaders total with games of 142 and 139 for a series of 281. Elder continued their strong play in the Baker’s Games to seal their 1 st place finish in the Quad Match and notch three more wins on their GCL record. They rolled games of 265, 212, 140 and 201 to finish with a Bakers total of 818 and a match total of 3042. St. Xavier battled back in the Baker’s games to take home 2 nd place at the Quad Match for a record of 2 and 1 on the day to improve their league record to 3-1 on the season. They rolled games of 193, 185,

244 and 229 for a Baker total of 851 which gave them a match total of 2693 finishing ten pins ahead of LaSalle. The Lancers finished in third place on the day after they rolled games of 192, 196, 183 and 199 in the Baker’s games for a baker total of 770 and a match total of 2983 to finish ten pins behind 2 nd place. They finished the day with 1 win and 2 losses that dropped their league record to 1-3 on the year. Moeller rolled 127, 184, 199 and 151 in the Baker’s games for a baker total of 661 to give them a 2474 match total. They finished in fourth at the Quad Match and with the three losses it dropped their league
record to 0-5 on the season.

GCL South play continues on Thursday, December 14 when St. Xavier travels to Western Bowl to take on the first place Elder Panthers on their home lanes at 7 pm. LaSalle and Moeller will face each other on Friday, December 15 as the Lancers will make the trip back to Crossgate Lanes to take on the Crusaders on their home lanes at 4 pm.
