Moeller and St. Xavier played non-conference basketball games Tuesday night, and both Greater Catholic League South Division members won by identical 60-42 scores. Four of five starters scored in double figures as Moeller went on the road to Winton Woods and remained undefeated and extended its winning streak to 36 games in the process, while senior Jared Kreimer came off the Bombers’ bench to score a team-high 15 points, including three of his team’s eight three-point goals in a victory against GCL Co-Ed member Badin at Dick Berning Gymnasium.
Senior Alec Pfriem led Moeller (16-0), ranked No. 1 in this week’s Associated Press Di state poll, with 16 points, hitting 8-of-8 free throws to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. He was joined in double figures by junior Max Land, who had 13 points and nine rebounds, and senior Miles McBride and sophomore Logan Duncomb, who each added 12. McBride finished with eight rebounds, four blocked shots, two assists and two steals as the Crusaders led 14-6 after one quarter and increased the margin to 29-17 at halftime. Moeller also held the rebounding edge, 37-23.
St. Xavier (9-8) used big second and fourth quarters against Badin, jumping out to a 14-6 lead after eight minutes and then outscoring the Rams, 23-14, in the final quarter. Kreimer came off the bench to hit 5-of-7 field goals, including 3-of-4 from three-point range while also grabbing four rebounds. Senior Danny Greive was the other Bomber in double figures, with 11 on 4-of-6 shooting and 3-of-3 on three-pointers. St. Xavier was 8-of-20 on three-pointers in the game.
It is another big Friday of GCL South games this week, with Moeller (3-0 in league games) looking to clinch at least a share of its sixth straight league championship with a win at La Salle (1-2). Elder (1-2) is at St. Xavier (1-2) in the other league game. The Crusaders have a two-game lead over the other three teams with three GCL South games remaining on the schedule.
