GCL South Teams Open Regional Volleyball Play; Moeller, St. Xavier To Host Semifinals Tonight On Campus

All four Greater Catholic League South Division volleyball teams are in action tonight in the Ohio High School Boys’ Volleyball Association State Tournament, with South Region Division I semifinal games set to be held at Moeller and St. Xavier high schools.  Moeller (21-1), the No. 1 seed, opposes Fairfield in the first of two South #1 matches on its campus at 5 p.m. , followed by Loveland versus Oak Hills at 6:30.  No. 3 Elder (19-5) will oppose Milford in the first of two South #2 matches at 6 at St. Xavier, followed by the host and No. 2 seed St. Xavier (18-3) taking on Mason immediately following.

The semifinal winners advance to the regional final matches, to be held at St. Xavier on Saturday.  The South #1 region final is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the South #2 title match at 7.  The OHSBVA State Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for June 2-3 at Capital University in Greater Columbus.  Moeller, St. Xavier and Elder are ranked in the top three spots, respectively, in the OHSBVA final Division I state poll.  The three DI GCL South teams have a combined 58-9 record.  Moeller’s lone loss this season is to St. Xavier, coming on the final night of GCL South play on April 11.

La Salle is competing in the South Region semifinals at the DII level.  The Lancers (9-10) will face host McNicholas at 6 tonight.   Roger Bacon travels to Hamilton to play Badin in the other regional semifinal, with the winners scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Xavier for a berth in the state tournament.  LA Salle is No. 5 in the final DII State rankings, with Kettering Alter holding down the top spot.
