Defending state champion Moeller and St. Xavier, the No. 1 seed in Region 4, posted victories in the opening round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Lacrosse Tournament Tuesdaynight.  Moeller was the first Greater Catholic League South Division team to advance, posting a 23-3 win over Little Miami on its Kenwood campus early Tuesday evening.  St. Xavier, fresh off its first title in the Midwest Scholastic League Coaches Association Tournament in Columbus last weekend, advanced with a 23-1 win against Anderson.

Elder, the third GCL South team in action, fell to Lebanon, 13-6, on the road to end its season.  As a result of its win, Lebanon (12-5) will meet St. Xavier (14-3) at 6:30 p.m. today at St. Xavier Stadium.   Moeller (13-6), which put together a 10-game winning streak last season to claim the Division I state title, will host No. 5 Mason (11-7) in the regional quarterfinals at 6 tonight at Moeller.  Mason advanced with a 12-4 win against Kings on Tuesday night.  The two teams met during the regular season, with Moeller posting an 8-5 victory over the Comets on April 25 at Mason.

Against Anderson, St. Xavier built a 16-1 halftime lead on the way to winning its third straight and six of the last seven matches.  Senior Dan Klusty scored three goals and added three assists for the Bombers, who also got two goals each from seniors Connor Saxton and Nick Shamsi.   Moeller was led by junior attacker Brendan Sigurdson, who had four goals and six assists, while  senior Logan Dieball added three goals and three assists.
