Seniors Sean Delany and Ryan Smith were named the Greater Catholic League South Division Runner and Field Athlete of the Meet, respectively, while senior teammate Jack Lowry finished first in both the 800- and 1600-meter runs while senior Ben Bowers was second in the 1600 and 3200 running events  to help Moeller hold off St. Xavier and finish first in the 2018 GCL/GGCL Track & Field Championships that were held last Friday night at La Salle High School’s Lancer Stadium.  The GCL South meet title was Moeller’s first since 2004, when the Crusaders won their second straight GCL South meet.

St. Xavier, seeking its first league meet title since 2005, and La Salle – which won the GCL South meet each of the last three years – provided great competition for Moeller as just five point separated the first through third-place finishing teams at the end of the night.  Moeller wound up with 71 points, followed by St. Xavier at 69, La Salle with 66, and Elder earning 50.  The Bombers needed to finish two spots ahead of Moeller in the 4x400 relay to tie for the league title, but Moeller wound up third, just one place behind St. Xavier, to lock up sole possession of first place.

Delany finished first in the 110 and 300 hurdles, while also running a leg in the 4x100 relay team that finished second to earn his honor.  Smith captured both the discus and shot put to reign supreme in the field events.    It was an outstanding meet for St. Xavier junior Henry Young, who set a school record in the 100 with a time of 10.66.  Young also was part of a 4x100 record-breaking relay team, combing with TJ Ahrens, King Hudson and BJ Ferguson to finish in 42.26 to establish a new mark.
