Elder and St. Xavier, the top two seeds, respectively, both posted victories Saturday in the semifinals of the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League Tournament – setting up a third meeting at 6 p.m. today at Northlands Ice Center in Sharonville to determine the tourney winner. St. Xavier is the defending champion, having won the event last year for the first time, but Elder has won both meetings between the two schools this season.
It was Elder earning a spot in the final first, posting a 6-3 victory in the afternoon against Talawanda. St. Xavier then followed with a 7-1 victory against Troy to set up the all-GCL South final. Elder defeated St. Xavier, 9-2, in the first meeting back on December 10, and then knocked off the Bombers again, 4-1, in the Panthers’ Christmas Tournament – marking victory No. 100 as a program since the sport was recognized by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
