Elder, which finished first in the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League regular-season standings to earn the No. 1 seed, and defending tournament champion and No. 2 seed St. Xavier take to the ice today in the semifinals of the SWOHSHL Tournament being played at Northlands Ice Center in Sharonville. Greater Catholic League South Division member La Salle is also playing today, getting the action started at 10 this morning against Beavercreek.
Elder (18-5-0 overall, 13-0-0 SWOHSHL) – which finished unbeaten and atop the five-school Red Division – is scheduled to face Talawanda in one semifinal at 4 p.m., with St. Xavier (15-7-4, 10-2-1) – second in that division – meeting Troy at 6. The winners advance to meet in the tournament final at 6 p.m. Sunday. St. Xavier won the event for the first time last season.
Moeller, which competes as a member of the 14-team Capital Hockey Conference and won the league’s White Division, advanced to the semifinals of the Blue Jackets Cup being played this week at the OhioHealth Ice Haus, which is connected to Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The No. 4 seed Crusaders, who won their division with a 12-3-0 league record, moved to Friday’s semis with a 4-2 win against No. 5 Upper Arlington in Thursday’s opening round, before falling last night to No. 1 seed and defending champion Dublin Jerome, 5-2. Moeller takes a 21-11-0 record into next week’s Ohio High School Athletic Association Columbus District Tournament.
Elder and St. Xavier also will compete in the district tournament.
