The Greater Catholic League South Division held its first quad of the season last Tuesday at Crossgate Lanes in Blue Ash, with La Salle earning the win against its league competition – followed by Elder, St. Xavier and Moeller. Junior Zach Beatty, senior Jacob Toelke and sophomore Alex Toelke turned in the top three series for La Salle – which followed that victory by defeating Moeller last Friday TO remain undefeated in the GCL South.
Beatty rolled a 269-265 for a match-best 534 series (267 average), followed by Jacob Toelke (224-257-481, 240.5) and Alex Toelke (215-205-420, 210.0) pace the Lancers – who finished with a team score of 2153 in the regular games. The Lancers totaled 803 pins in the Baker Format games, for a total pin count of 2956 in the match. La Salle was followed in the team standings by Elder (2084-664 for a total of 2748), St. Xavier (1852-759 for 2611), and Moeller (1817-740 for 2557.
Here are the top three bowlers from each team: Elder –Cameron Brocker (248-200-448); Ryan Kaffenberger (225-222-447); Ethan Boyers (205-211-416); St. Xavier – Carson Kiley (217-228-445); Ben Behimer (173-210-383); Zach Saupe (192-187-379); Moeller – Nolan Braun (202-196-398); John Painter (202-168-370); Nick Widmeyer (181-181-362).
Last Thursday, St. Xavier posted its first win over Elder since January 2017. The Bombers rolled a team score of 1054 in the first game, paced by seniors Saupe (255, 421 series), Behimer (214), Jeremy Roenker (213), and Jake Hoffman (211). Jaxon Tuerck paced Elder with a 224 for a team score of 923. St. Xavier posted a 982 in the second game, with Roenker rolling a 234 for a match-high series of 447; Behimer rolled a 212 for a 426 series, while Kaffenberger of Elder shot a team-high 227.
On Friday, La Salle moved to 5-0 against GCL South competition with a victory against Moeller. Jacob Toelke led the Lancers with a 489 series (226-263), followed by Beatty’s 443 (212-231) and a 417 from sophomore Nolan Blessing (196-221). Widmeyer rolled a 388 (211-177) to pace Moeller, followed by a 358 (174-184) from senior Max Malof.
The next league match is set for January 3, when Elder travels to face La Salle at 4 p.m. at Colerain Bowl. The first full weekend in January features two big events – the Queen City Classic at Western Bowl on Friday, January 4 (hosted by Taylor High School), and the sixth Back to School Bash January 5-6 at The Game of Fairfield (hosted by Fairfield high School).
