Moeller will put its postseason scoreless streak on the line Wednesday, when the Crusaders’ soccer team makes its first trip to the Division I Final Four and opposes Olentangy Liberty at 7 p.m. at Springfield’s Evans Stadium in the state semifinals of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Soccer Tournament. Moeller has not allowed a goal in six postseason matches, outscoring opponents by a combined 23-0 to move two wins away from a state championship.
Advancing to the state final, however, won’t be easy against Liberty (18-2-0), which was ranked No. 2 in the final DI poll of the Ohio Scholastics Soccer Coaches Association (OSSCA). Moeller (18-1-3), which is one victory away from setting the school single-season mark for most victories (currently tied with the 1994 team), was No. 2 in the final rankings. Cleveland St. Ignatius (18-1-2), which spent the majority of the season at No. 1, plays Medina (16-1-4) in other state semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday at North Ridgeville High School.
The state final is Saturday at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, home of the Major Soccer League Columbus Crew. The OHSAA has not yet announced an official start time.
